A.     Meaning of zakat

Zakat is from Arabic that has meaning a clean, holy, grow up and blessing. It is property that is given by Muslim; it is Allah’s proprietary rights and it is given to someone have the right (Mustahiq). Zakat is also one of Islam five harmonies. It has been curtained the measure since 2 Hijriah. It is explained:

            “The lord doth know that thoustandest fort (to prayer) night to thirds of the night, or half the night, or the third of the night, and so doth a party of those white three. But Allah doth appoint Night and Day in due measure. He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count therefore. So He hath turned to you (in mercy); read ye, therefore, of the Quran as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill health; others traveling through the land, seeking of Allah’s bounty; yet others fighting in Allah’s Cause. Read ye, therefore, as much of the Quran as may be easy (for you); And establish regular Prayer and give zakat; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for yourselves, ye shall find it with Allah. Yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah: for Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” 

(Al-Muddassir; 20)

“And be steadfast in prayer:give zakat, and bow down your heads with those who bow down (in worship)” ( Al-Baqarah;43)  By Allah    .

  Those are signs the important of zakat for keeping our human relation as the creator (Hablum minan naas).

B.     The basic law zakat

The basic law zakat is in:

  “Of their wealth, take alms, that so thou mightest purify and sanctify them; and pray on their behalf. Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them; And Allah is One Who heareth and knoweth.” (At-Taubah; 103)

   There are still many verses of the Quran and deeds of Muhammad that explain about the important of zakat.

C.     The kinds of zakat

Zakat has 2 general kinds, those are:

1.      Zakat fitri ( Indonesian usually say zakat fitrah)

2.      Zakat maal.

    

Zakat fitri is zakat that is giving some staple foods such as hullend rice, wheat, corn, date etc in the Ramadhan, after the sun sets until before doing a idul fitri praying. It must be done by Muslim. Its measure is 2, 5 kilograms. Its Merit are cleaning our soul (Tzkiyatun Nafs), giving a meal to poor men for complete our fasting that is ever broken by Muslim with the bad things.

Zakat maal is zakat that is done by giving our some property. Mall is for cleaning our property and keeping our soul from a stingy and avarice.

D.     The man or girl who must be accepted zakat

  There are (mustahiq) fuqara, masakin , amil zakat , mu’alaf, yharimin, servant , ibnu sabil and fii sabilillah in At-Taubah :

“Alms are for the poor and the needy and those employed to administer (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to Truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.” (At-Taubah; 60).

E.      Wisdom of zakat

There are:

1. It is for Muzzaki (Someone who give zakat)

       a. It is sign of faith and Islam

b. Cleaning soul is from a stingy and avarice

c. Teaching someone is for always giving

d. It will give Allah’s morals

e. It is a sign of thank god from Allah

f. Halting heart is from the loving world

g. It gives loving

       2. Cleaning our property

       3. It is for Mustahiq (someone who accept zakat)

            a. It completes mustahiq necessary

            b. It gives a good felling to some one

            c. It erases an asking feeling.
